Consort Road, Southwark
South East London
Consort Road has a distinctive architectural presence within the Peckham Regeneration Zone.
This eco-friendly multi tenure development includes nine, seven-person houses for affordable rent, providing much needed family accommodation.
Sustainable cutting-edge design
The development combines numerous environmentally sensitive features with cutting-edge design, including:
- glazed winter gardens that provide passive solar gain (pre-heating homes in winter months and providing a buffer in warmer months) and also act as an acoustic buffer
- electrical energy generated on site by a gas-fired combined heat and power unit
- sustainable electricity generated by the 10kWp rooftop photovoltaic array, which is expected to produce 7200kWh/year
- 'brown roof' and nestings, which enhance natural habitats.
Awards
Consort Road won the Mail on Sunday British Homes Award for Affordable Housing Development 2008 and was shortlisted in the RIBA Architectural Awards 2008.
