The Mayor of Kensington and Chelsea has officially opened the newly refurbished Amy Garvey House.

Amy Garvey House provides 18 to 25 year-olds with learning and physical disabilities supported accommodation as a step on the way to more independent living. The first residents arrived in April.

Councillor Timothy Coleridge, Cabinet Member for Housing, said:

"I am delighted that after an extensive refurbishment Amy Garvey House is officially open for business. It give young people with learning and physical disabilities a chance to live more independently in the community."

Kath King, Group Director of Asset Management at Notting Hill Housing, said:

"Notting Hill Housing aims to provide homes where people can love where
they live. We have refurbished the property with this in mind and I wish
each of the residents – good luck in your new home."

The refurbishment started in March 2010 and cost just under £1m. There are 11 self-contained flats and a communal area. Support is to help equip young people with skills that will allow them move on to live independent lives.

Amy Garvey House is in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea in London. Notting Hill Housing is the landlord with the core support service provided by Look Ahead Housing and Care.
