Matt Perkins

Matt describes the exciting, demanding and emotional day that was his first ever London Marathon.

Matt ran the Flora London Marathon in 2006.

"It was my first ever Marathon so I made sure I did plenty of training, but you never know whether you have done enough until you finish," Matt said.

"After a slow start I got into a good rhythm and was amazed by the fantastic support all along the course.

22 miles in

"After about 22 miles my legs started to really seize up and the pain slowed me down, but I got the boost I needed when at mile 26 my Mum cheered me on.

Finishing in 3 hours 44 minutes was one of my greatest achievements and I'll never forget it.

"I'll always remember the day for the overwhelming spirit of both runners and supporters. I was glad to do it to raise money for Notting Hill Housing too.

"It was an exciting, demanding and emotional day, but was well worth the effort.

"Will I be doing it again? Of course!"
