Being one of of the largest housing associations in Britain, we know a thing or two about property. So we thought who better to train people to work in the construction industry?
About CTI
In 1995 we set up CTI, an innovative two year, acredited construction training scheme. It links unemployed people looking for a job with builders desperately looking for people willing to train in an understaffed industry.
Currently we run our CTI scheme for unemployed people over 18 years of age who live in Barnet, Brent, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow, Kensington, Chelsea and Westminster. The scheme is a two year industry standard
Benefits of the scheme
CTI offers people:
- financial help with college fees, fares, books and stationery
- free professional tools and equipment
- access to useful work placements with reputable contractors
- the opportunity to earn as you train
- free health and safety tests
- professional advice, guidance and support
- employment and training events.
Skills for a lifetime
To say our Construction Training Initiative been a success is an understatement. Since we started, more than 700 people have benefited from CTI, giving them skills that will last them a lifetime.
We are particularly interested in encouraging diversity by supporting black and ethnic minority (BME) groups into the industry with over 40% of people coming from these groups.
Award winning
Our scheme is much copied across Britain. It has won several awards, including a government award presented by Meg Munn MP, for best practice in promoting equality and diversity in the construction industry.
