Leasehold Valuation Tribunal (LVT)
LVT is the independent body appointed to make decisions on various types of dispute relating to residential leasehold property. Both landlords and leaseholders can ask the LVT to look into leasehold disputes.
Resolving disputes
The process usually involves submitting an application form to the LVT who will then determine how to deal with the case. A pre-trial hearing may be held to see if any areas of the dispute can be resolved by agreement. Before a hearing takes place, the LVT will request information and evidence to support or defend the application from all parties. Following the hearing the LVT will issue its decision in writing. It is possible to appeal against the decision taken by the LVT.
Applying to the LVT
You can apply to the LVT as an individual or as a group of residents. Your Property Management Officer can provide you with guidance on making an application to the LVT. Alternatively you can visit the Residential Property Tribunal Service website or contact an LVT advisor on 0845 600 3178.
