Moving temporarily

Occasionally, we have to move permanent rented housing tenants temporarily out of their home so we can carry out repairs or improvements.

If we need to move you temporarily due to repairs or improvements, the first step will be for us to interview you to find out your housing requirements. This will help us to offer you a new temporary home which meets your needs.

We will try to move you as near to the start of the repair work or improvements as possible so you're not away from your home any longer than necessary.

The moving process

We don't believe moving to temporary accommodation should leave you out of pocket so we will cover the following costs:

  • disconnecting and reconnecting domestic appliances
  • disconnecting and reconnecting the telephone
  • disconnecting and reconnecting the TV aerial
  • redirecting mail for between three and six months
  • refitting or adapting curtain rails
  • replacing security door locks if they were fitted in your previous home
  • adapting floor coverings
  • storage of goods.

When a property becomes available you will be invited to a viewing and given the opportunity to decide whether it is suitable for you.

Do I get a say about the improvements?

We will tell you about what is planned for the property and how long it is expected to take. Where building requirements and costs allow, you will be able to make choices about improvements such as the types of fittings and decoration.
