Your responsibilities for repairs

As a permanent rented housing tenant you are responsible for decorating your home and reporting repairs to us.

External repairs and repairs to shared areas

If repairs are not dealt with quickly, they can become expensive. It is very important that you tell us as soon as possible about any problems with your building which are our responsibility. See how to report a repair for more information.

Gutters and rainwater pipes

Please let us know if you notice leaking gutters or rainwater pipes, or water pouring from an overflow, even if the problem is not affecting you directly.

Shared areas

Please also let us know if repairs are needed in shared areas of the building.

When we will charge you for repairs

You are responsible for any deliberate damage caused to your home. This includes any deliberate damage caused by members of your family or your guests.

If we have to make repairs due to deliberate damage, we will charge you for the repairs. This is sometimes called re-charging. Your Housing Officer will tell you if we are going to charge you for a repair, how much it will cost and how you can pay.

Repairs for elderly or disabled people

If you are elderly or disabled and you are not able to carry out certain repairs that you are responsible for, we may carry these out for you.

Interior decorations

You are responsible for decorating inside your home to a reasonable standard.

If you are elderly or have a disability and there is no one who can do the decorating for you, we will try to arrange for a voluntary organisation to help you.
