Mental health

We provide an accommodation-based mental health service for people recovering from severe long term and short term mental health problems in the Royal Borough of Kensington and Chelsea.

The service is available to anyone with mental health difficulties and additional needs, such as drug and alcohol dependencies.

Accommodation

The accommodation is shared housing with staff on site and self-contained studio flats.

This provides a comfortable and safe environment where experienced staff can work with you to develop and encourage your independence and help you to prepare to move when you are ready.

How long will I get support?

Generally we provide support to people who have been assessed as having the potential to move on to more independent accommodation within two years. We will plan your move into more independent living with you and any other people who work with you.

What type of support will I get?

The mental health support you receive is structured around your needs and aspirations. At the start of the support we'll draw up a support plan with you so you understand what will happen.

You'll also be assigned a Support Officer who will work closely with other statutory and voluntary organisations (like social services) to help promote your recovery and independence.

As we work with you, you'll notice there is a lot of emphasis on your rights and responsibilities as well as encouraging you to respect yourself and others. This means we encourage you to tackle issues for yourself when you can. We know that you may at times be distressed and unwell, and will require more practical support at these times.

How can I apply for support?

If you would like support you'll need to be referred to us by the Kensington and Chelsea Community Mental Health Teams:

Mental Health Accommodation Officer
Housing Assessment, Support and Placement Team
Room 241, Kensington Town Hall
Hornton St, London W8 7NX

Email: HASP@rbkc.gov.uk Telephone: 020 7361 3008
Fax: 020 7361 3473

We'll speak to other professionals, for example your Housing Officer or Community Mental Health Nurse, to assess your needs. You can request details of the type of information we consider in the assessment.

How much does it cost?

There is a charge for our accommodation-based mental health support service. The cost can vary depending on your circumstances but if you are entitled to benefits you will only be required to pay a small weekly amount to pay for your use of water, gas and electricity.

Mental health support in your home

As well as this accommodation-based service we also provide support in your home for people with mental health needs living in Barnet, Hounslow and Kensington and Chelsea.
