Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions (sometimes called FAQs) from our temporary housing tenants, along with answers.

What is Home Options?

Home Options is the name for the division that manages temporary housing and settled accommodation.

Can I apply for temporary housing accommodation?

We can only accept people who are nominated to us by local authorities.

You will need to register with your local authority directly. They will assess your needs and nominate you to one of our properties if it is suitable.

We charge market rents and most of our tenants receive Housing Benefit to help cover costs.

Find details for your local authority.

Where will I be housed?

We have properties all over London. You are most likely to be housed in the borough that you make your housing application in.

Sometimes your local authority may need to offer you properties outside of your borough. This is because they do not have anything that suits your needs available in your area.

How long will my tenancy last?

The length of your tenancy will depend on which borough you live in and whether you are in settled accommodation or temporary housing waiting to be re-housed permanently. On average, our tenancies last from 18 months to 5 years.

To find out more about whether you are in settled accommodation or waiting to be permanently re-housed, you should contact your local borough.
